The county's biggest water user, and older mains in the ground
West Chester Township gets its water from Butler County Water & Sewer, which buys treated water from the City of Hamilton and Greater Cincinnati Water Works. Township officials have noted that West Chester residents and businesses use about 56 percent of the county's water supply each year.
The county has also been replacing older cast iron water mains in the township. Main work is the county's job. Your part is everything past the meter: the service line to the house, the main shutoff, and the plumbing inside. When a main break nearby leaves the water cloudy or the pressure low, run the cold taps until the water clears before calling anyone.
- Low pressure on the whole street at once: call Butler County Water & Sewer first.
- Low pressure only in your house: check the main shutoff and the pressure regulator.
- Meter moving with everything off: a leak on your side of the meter.
- Brown water after county main work: run cold taps until clear.
Burst pipe or leak in West Chester? What to do before we get there
Close the main shutoff
In most West Chester homes it sits on the basement or utility room wall where the county water line enters, near the meter and pressure regulator.
Kill power near the water
Turn off circuits in any room where water is reaching outlets, appliances or a finished basement floor.
Protect the space
Move rugs, electronics and stored boxes. Photograph everything for your insurer before cleanup.

Housing from the 1970s to new builds
Much of West Chester was built from the 1970s onward, so the typical home here has copper or PEX supply lines, PVC drains, and a full or partial basement. The problems are less about old pipe and more about equipment age: water heaters, sump pumps, pressure regulators and fixture valves.
Many homes also have in-ground irrigation, which needs a testable backflow device and an annual test under Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3745-95. Our backflow testing page covers that. For hidden leaks in finished basements, leak detection finds the source before drywall comes down.

The township's office parks, restaurants and shops around Union Centre Boulevard bring commercial calls too: restroom backups, grease-heavy kitchen lines and backflow tests on fire and irrigation lines. Our commercial plumbing page covers scheduling work around business hours.
Permits for plumbing work in the township come from the Butler County General Health District, which inspects to the Ohio Plumbing Code, based on the 2021 International Plumbing Code (IPC).
